hi, this is my spec
- e6300 stock
- stock HS/F
- Corsair value select 2GB 677 (duel channel_)
- foxconn p965
- 470w PSU asaksa (bit small but will do)
- px7600gs leadtek not OC'ed

any way i followed a guide in mag here in the UK bout OC'ing. and im quite knowledgeable in PC's and am on the forum a bit. so i know that my C2D should be able to reach 333mhz without voltage increases.

it failed to post and i had to reset Cmos after a series of long beeps

so what do you think it is i dont want to OC abv 333 but i want it to be stable.

do you think my cheap ram need a voltage increases.

Try volt increase. I had same cpu, Asus P5B, Corsair XMS 2GB 800, and I increase vcore to 1.325 and my RAM to 2.1 volts and also to 333mhz no problems. I even lowered my vcore to 1.275 and I am at 350 mhz still stable

Try increasing your FSB in small incremental. eg, 280Mhz => 290Mhz => 300Mhz...

It shouldn't take an increased Vcore to overclock E6300 to 333Mhz. and I did 400Mhz with no voltage increase.

sorry what does this mean?

also your right i should require Vcore increase so should i give my cheap ram a little boost

increase the voltage to mch and your ram.

Also, what are the timings to your ram? I had stability issues due to my ram dropping out at times.

oops, my signature is wrong. I am at 7x430 with v core of 1.25 any my memory is 5-5-4-13

I lowered it cause I had a significant drop in core top for a small change in the speed.

Most Intel mobos link FSB and RAM speeds. You are running 667 RAM. So if your system defaults to running your memory at 667 before overclocking, then you are trying to put a 33% overclock on your RAM. It may not like that very much.

I'd advise going back and setting your memory divider to run at 1:1. At the default FSB your memory will be underclocked (533Mhz). But once you set the Front Side Bus to your target overclock (333), it'll be percolating happily at it's rating.

Hmmm... somethings wrong.

333x7=2.33ghz

That shouldn't be too tough on it.

Sounds like it is linked, I'd agree that it maybe trying to OC the ram as well, which would cause it to sit there and try to scream, turn me off.. turn me.. off.

i can set my memory to run @ 533mhz, this isnt setting a stonewall ration but it should mean that it will get 677, this wont actually be under any extra strain will it? and the CPu will take it fine

Took the time to find a PDF on the foxconn MB. Not exactly sure if I got the right one.

On the PDF, shows a Gladiator Menu?

CPU Feature [press enter]
Memory Timing Config [press enter]
All Voltage [press enter]

I'd guess this is what I'd do:

OC Phase Select [enable]
instant OC [disable]
CPU Clock [333]
CPU Clock vs Memory Speed [???l] **** I think this might be the problem if left on auto - I think or hope you'd have link or manual as other options, I'd set it to manual.
System Memory speed [667]
PCI-E [100mhz]
PCI Clock [33.6mhz]

On the CPU feature:
EIST - I'd choose enable unless native is enabled
Limit CPUID Max Value - disabled
C1E Function - enable unless auto is enable
Execute Disabled Bit - disabled
Virtual Technology - disable
Frequence Unlimit - disable
Core Multi-processing - enabled

You can disable c1e and eist if you don't want power savings, or test it 1st to see if its stable, then go back and turn it on to test again. When you disable eist and c1e, you should be able to change the multiplier, just change it to 7.

Hope that helps, not sure if I d/l the right manual though.

I noticed you quoted me above. I'm sorry that I thought you had an E4300, took me awhile to realize you had a E6300.

Speed Step should work fine with it OC'd. But I guess its user preference, it should work either way. I've already ran Orthos for over 9 hours with speedstep turned on for my E4400 @ 3ghz.

thank you all, esp grimmy & xringx. as i load my machine i had finally managed to get the OC i wanted. i quick confirmation on good o'l CPUZ assured me i had done it without Vcore increases.

here what i did:
turn off all unnecessary function
upped the CPU clock to 333
downed the RAM to 533
this mean that with the ration increase its now 5300 @ 333 which if im right is essentially 677(confirmation pls)
im getting a 1333 in related FSB

thanks all

ok speed fans says
temp1 27C
temp2 35C
Temp3 49C
HD0 32C
temp1 (again?) 40C
Core0 39C
Core1 37C

that seem good ring (not under load) apart from temp3 which either has tick or flame, all seem to be blue down arrow or green tick

While thats an older pic, everything including the temps match right now
