Removed avira virus protection now getting C errors in my WIN XP os

Hello,
I removed avira virus protection (Premium version) now getting C++ errors in my WIN XP OS. I wnt to install the AVIRA free public version but, the C++ errors have made it impossible to bring my pc online. Will I have to reload my pc? Is it possible to 'fix' this without such a drastic step?
