You dont need to worry about a jumper with SATA. You want to put your hard drives in order that you want them to be lettered

If you have 4 SATA connectors on your motherboard, plug in your 1st hard drive into SATA-01

Second HD into SATA-02 (If you had a second one)

Then your CD drives (if they are SATA) into SATA-03 ans so forth.

Refer to your motherboard manual if its not clearly labeled on the motherboard.

I tried to do a quick edit and it never gave confirmation that the post was successful so heres my double post. There should be an option to delete a post that you created. Oh well.

Everything they said, but let me add a little clarification. Many SATA drives arrive with one little jumper installed. It is there to force the drive to talk to the world at 1.5 Gb/s, the original SATA speed, just to be compatible if that's all your HD controller can do. But if you know your system handles SATA II (at 3.0Gb/s), just pull off that jumper and stash it away. If you don't do this, it will make almost NO difference, anyway!

Oops, Paperdoc is correct. I forgot about the speed jumper... older SATA drives that only run at 1.5 Gb/s don't have a speed jumper. Newer SATA 3.0 Gb/s drives DO have the jumper. Some older systems with the original 1.5 SATA interface do have issues if the jumper on newer 3.0 SATA drives are left at the usual factory default of 3.0 . I'm using an older system with PCI slots and an add in card so I'm stuck with a 1.5 Gb/s interface speed and my drive is jumpered for the slower 1.5 speed. You need PCI-Express to get 3.0 add in cards (or have onboard SATA II).
