I am gonna stick with my current graphics card (XFX 7900GTX) and sound card (Creative Platinum Pro) until the 2950's drop in November. Hopefully they won't be a bust! I have a BenQ FP241W 24 inch monitor, so Crossfire/SLI is a definite possibility for the future.
Also, I obviously have this build in mind for some real overclocking. I have a high-end mobo with the bargain box proc so I can potentially do a drop in upgrade of a shiny new quad next summer perhaps.
I have no idea what effect X48 based mobo's will have on my current build plan (nor do I know of any sort of a release date) so if X48 looks like a more attractive option, I won't hesitate to jump ship! I also have a bunch of SATAII hard drives hanging around my bedroom so I should be covered unless I want a Raptor or something in.
Any comments or concerns would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Keep in mind that the x38 boards are still in rev. 1, so don't be shocked if they don't work as advertised. Awfully expensive for a potentially buggy product. A solid 680i board might be a better choice. Since you are overclocking anyway, DDR2 1066 is a waste IMO. standard DDR2 800 Ballistix would do just as well.
Get a P35/680i instead of that MAXIMUS FORMULA, well there are only 2 P35 boards that has 8x8x crossfire mode (which is very close to 16x16x) and they are BLITZ FORMULA and BLITZ EXTREME, all other P35 boards are 16x4x which isnt very good for CrossFire, so as i said go for 680i or P35 and dont worry about anything
alo get DDR2 800 instead of 1066 and save some money , it will OC very good
