Hi,

I have a question regarding duplexes. I understand that full duplex is simultaneous information transfer from both points of "A" & "B".

So with that said, does the following state that the AMD is able to process more information to the Northbridge quicker than the Intel chip?

[According to http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processor [...] 11,00.html, a chart says that AMD System Bus Technology (Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile's) are "up to 1600mhz, full duplex" where Intel is "800MHz Front Side Bus Half duplex".]

Am I missing something here?

Thanks
:D

Yes, but it doesn't matter that much. AMDs HT technology is superior to the FSB that Intel still uses. Not only that, but because AMD uses an IMC, they don't need to use the CPU => NB bus as much seeing as all memory requests go directly to the ram and not the NB. (meaning AMDs bus isn't as used as Intels.)

As I said however, this doesn't mean much. Hyper Transport or FSB, neither one is a "choke point" or bottle neck for most people/uses. The fact is, AMDs might sit on a better bus, but Intel still has the better chips, well the C2D ones anyways. If you are looking at chips, don't get caught up in L2 cache sizes, or what bus it uses. The question you need to ask is, "Is chip A faster then chip B?" If the answer is yes, do you really care how/why?

Well answered. I think I represent a portion of DIY-er's that get a bit over zealous and end up over analyzing available computers looking for that perfect model. Some of us may even aspire to one day have a different "pocket protector" for each day of the week. lol

Thanks
