Am I the only one that thinks it's weird they cut down the bus to 256 bit and the memory to 512 mb while simultaneously making a card that is (reportedly) faster than the 8800 GTS 640 MB?

Reply to rodney_ws

Ya they came at these cards from a different angle didn't they?

And that October date is even better, but either will do.

I've had the same weird sensation, so what will happen with the 8600's, will they switch names on the GT/GTS lol?

Really?!?! An 88000?!?! Is that like SLI-X (Roman numeral for 10) for 8800GTs? That would have to be a huge MB, something like Extended ZTX with 24 expansion slots (10 PCIe 2.0s) and 40.4 HD audio onboard. Gimme on of them.

:kaola:

Typos are funny.

So is this. The 88000 isn't a CPU, silly.

I find it funny that you say we should stop being cheap and buy a GTX when your sig clearly shows that you own a GTS 320.

LOL damn straight...

And im actually waiting too see what other changes happen with the 8800's if they move the GTX onto the G92 then ill be a winner... or even see what the new AMDs can do

I wouldn't count the chickens before they hatch. I would wait for reviews and possible the newer GTS version. Maybe the GTX will get a makeover as well.....

So far benches put it in between 8800gts and 8800gtx, unless at high res with lots of AA then its about equal or less powerful then the 8800gts.

But its kl seems they realized they don't need tons of TMU's or tons of ROP's or high memory bus or w/e, just tons of shaders lol.

29th of October, I've got my money :P

Am I seeing that wrong, or is that a single-slot cooler on that thing? Could be most impressive, although it also would raise questions about noise levels and overclocking potential...

Reply to killer_roach

There are stock ones coming at 700mhz core and 2ghz memory, with just stock cooler, I seriously don't think OC'ing will be an issue.

I'm starting to worry now though, I know there will be a 1GB version at some point but IDK when, looks like im going to have to buy the 512mb version at this rate :( bad for DX10.

I am thinking is in't worth to get 2x 8800GT and SLI them than one 8800GTX

Reply to Zex

depends on the monitor and the amount of ram

if you have 2gb of ram and 2500 line monitor then the 2x 512mb memory cards may be better then 1 768mb

as far as the double gpu - sli has proven time and time again how useless it is. if you can only afford a lower end card and you want to add one later then sli is ok.

if you can buy the better card or buy 2 lesser cards almost everytime the 1 single card will out perform the sli set of a similar price.

typically adding the second card only results in 25-40% performace gain in fps.

with a super high resolution monitor the extra on board memory, which does not suffer from latency problems as the system memory, keeps the fps flowing faster.

If you can afford a 30" 2500 line dell monoitor then you can afford 2 better cards anyways - so until large monitors drop i think most people will be better off with 1 gtx

the reason i belive they have a single slot cooler is because its bulit on 65nm and not 90nm is it will run cooler and its cheaper to make

My "should have waited" story:

In April 2004 I bought a Generation 3 iPod. Black and White 2.0" screen, 8 hour battery life, 40GB capacity, you know 'the works'. I paid $500. Now a 160GB, 2.5" color screen, photo-displaying, video-playing, 40 hour battery life iPod is now $350. I think to myself: "darn, I should have waited", but then again, I've had it for a couple of years. What would I have done without it during that time?!?!

You've had your [video card] for a [an amount of time] now, and you've enjoyed it. Look at it that way. What would your game experience be during that time with anything less? Unenjoyable probably.

I just recently built my system with an EVGA 8800GTS 320MB KO for $325. ($15 rebate, which I haven't even got yet)

I've only used it for about over 3 weeks, and now I find out about the GT's.

Edit:

Not to mention what I discovered my system idles at with this GTS.

Finally, new GPUs!!

Okay, so we're supposed to be seeing two new 8800GT's this coming Monday, then new 8800GTS's around November 17th, the same time as ATI's RV670's (Gladiator and Revival). I can't wait to see some specs! Christmas is coming early this year!

Reply to descalada

I will wait and buy the new GTS.Because it will own the current GTX and be cheaper and most people like me don't have 500$ laying around to buy a the GTX but 300$ is something I can live with :D
