Can I get away with running crysis on high settings with a core 2 duo 1.86GHz overclocked to 3.1GHz/2GB Kingston DDR 2 and an EVGA 8800GTS. I will be running it on Vista so I will be using direct X10 also. Will this be sufficient?

I run it on max on a E2180 @ 3.0 and an 8800GT

Its only at 1024x1016 or something, but it appears to run fine. Slows a little here and there but I can live with it
Edit: The best thing is to just do it and see if its okay for you

hey silverion, the E2180 only has 1mb of L2 cache right? I guess that means I should be okay being as the E6320 has a 4mb L2 cache...and by "running it on max" do you mean "high" settings or "very high" settings? I just want to make sure before I purchase this processor and video card that I will actually be able to play it on "high". So basically when the processor is overclocked to 3.1GHz it would be pointless to buy an E6600 becuase I already have it clocked past that.

would I be better off with a E6550-2.33GHZ/ SOCKET 775/1333MHZ/4MB CACHE/CORE 2 DUO as oppossed to getting the E6320-1.86GHZ/SOCKET 775/1066MHZ CORE 2 DUO? I can overclock the E6320 past 2.3GHz but also the E6550 has a 1333FSB, is there going to be that much performance difference between an FSB of 1066 to 1333? My video card is going to be the EVGA 8800GTS so what do you think would be a better processor for my money?

Between the E6320 and E6550? The E6550 is better. If you have the money, buy the E8400 instead. It OCs to 4GHz on air.

The E6550.

How about getting the E2160 and OC it to 3.4GHz? It'll offer similar performance with a E6550 OC'ed to 3.3GHz.

yikes!!, i dunno about the 1mb cache/800FSB on the E2160 though. I might be able to pull the E6550 though, I like the sound of 1333FSB with 4mb cache, plus with proper cooling I could probably run it at 3.8GHz

No.

Learn to OC.

Higher multi = easier OC (in general).

Good luck though, don't take our advice. It always works out better.

Edit: Look I come off as an ass, but guess what? If you can OC the E2160 is a MUCH better value. E6550 = 7x multi. 542x7 = 3.8 GHz. 422x9 = 3.8 GHz. What is easier? I'm sure you can figure it out, but 500x7 is only 3.5 GHz, that is a LOT of stress on the motherboard. 1333 MHz FSB was not made for OCing.. except for the E8400.

My advice is an E2160+DFI Blood Iron+8800 GT

If he has the money for "proper" cooling to reach 3.8 GHz on an E6550 he has the money to get an E8400 at 3.0 GHz and not OC to begin with.

The E2160 at 3.2 GHz + an OC'd 8800 GT should play at all High at 12x10 without a problem.

You're reading in to it too much, cnumartyr. Perhaps he already has a good cooling?

Anyways it's likely he doesn't, so I'm with you.

Lately your posts has been a bit...sardonic?

That was a good one, I had to break out the dictionary.

And yes, they have been. Mostly because I have (hopefully) garnered enough people's respect around here that I don't need to sugar coat everything I say. I say what I mean and at times it comes off harsh.

I apologize if I offend anyone, but I make my comments in the best interest of assisting the OP. In this situation while it may aggrevate the OP, it is in his best interest.

Well, at least your point gets across real well. Just don't read too much into things...

I get the feeling you got dumped by Kiki AND Lauren. :(

Nah, Lauren and I are tight, never.

Kiki? Yea.. she ticked me off so I quit talking to her. I still have Brooke. Hopefully going to see Taste of Chaos with Brit as well. We shall see.

Edit: And I'm more concerned with talking to Jamie to even bother with Brooke.

Lol.. not really. Jamie is too shy to even talk to me. Brooke wants me but has a BF. Brit.. I'm not interested in her except as a concert buddy. Lauren is dating a good friend of mine, so no go there. Whatever though, I'm going to the mall tomorrow and I'm going to try to get atleast 3 girls numbers.

Edit: And for the record, Kiki still wants to talk to me. I just told her I needed space because I don't feel like dealing with what she did.

Nah, she was talking to another guy. I told her I wasn't going to deal with that even if we weren't dating, but we were both interested in dating. So I told her I couldn't trust her. She said she was sorry like 10 times, and now I'm trying to decide if I want to talk to her anymore.

So it's okay for you do date 30 other girls but not okay for her to talk to another guy? :??:

Kiki sounds like a cute name.

Uh.. yea. I'm a hypocrite, I know this. It's hard to explain, so it's easier to just say I'm an ass****.
