Overclocking Q6600 to 3.0-3.4GHz

Hi, I saw lots of people overclocking Q6600 to 3.0-3.4GHz,

1. Does it requires a really good cooling system like water cooling?

2. Or just simply use a better heat sink / Higher speed fan? Or even a good PC case with big fan would solve the heat problem?

I am new to OC-ing so I would like to clarify myself before planning to buy a Q6600 and OC it to 3.2GHz since it's quite attractive that the price for Q6600 is same as E6850

hi , im pretty new to OC also , i just made my first try 1 hours ago ..

i bought an after market Heatsink , with 120mm fan ...

before OCing , my temp was : idle 40 , Load 68

with that new Heatsink , i am at 46 in load at 3.0ghz !

just read post and stycky about OCing , and u will lurn fast , and dont

be shy to ask some question !!! GL


and btw !!! quad for the win ...

Hi, thx for your data.

How much is your Heat sink?

Did you try without using your new heatsink and oc it to 3.0? (If it's risky then please don't try for me :p ) coz i would like to know the difference between them... like will the temperature shoot up to 6x if use the original heat sink

well , like i told ya , with the original heatsink and 2.4ghz full load my temp was 68 c !! its kinda high .. so i dont think it can be OC to 3.0 with stock heatsink ..

and there is a couple of good aftermarket heatsink all near 50-70 box

just search in the forum about heatsink , u will find good advice

yea.. i know that's a way to do it... but I don't want to spend such a big money on water cooling.... :(
well... if a good heat sink and a big fan can solve it, that's not the problem :p

Air cooling will be sufficient for those speeds, unless you have bad luck...

Make sure whatever you get will fit on your Motherboard and in your case.

My experience with my B3 chip (check my sig) has been that voltage above 1.3875v generated too much heat for air cooling.

I'm running the 680i chipset...with 1.375v on the CPU and 1.4v on the NB.

that's not too outrageous...am I lucky in that respect.

How about if using P5K/C? or P5B Deluxe?
