Intel X48 - Much Ado about Nothing....

Finally a X48 review:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3150&p=6

Our initial test results indicate that except for official 1600FSB support, there are not any real performance differences between the X38 and X48 chipsets at stock or mildly overclocked settings. This does not surprise us, as Intel's chipset guidance outline has not indicated anything differently. It was not until we started pushing both boards that we could tell a difference, even then it was minor for the most part. The X48 based Premium board did allow us to reduce CPU and MCH voltages when compared to the Deluxe board.

well as if i remember right, X38 boards support 1600MHZ CPUs too ? am i wrong ?

Aye, my Asus P5E3 Deluxe x38 board supports CPU's at 1600MHz and memory at 1333 MHz. As for the x48, performance gains should be noticed if the CPU and RAM were both synchronized at 1600 MHz.

Holly x48, didn't x38 just come out, thats insane. I mean do we really need ddr3 at 1333mhz already? Man, I thought p35 was good. Well I guess things move that fast. Not like anyone can afford the new qx9650 anyway, lol.

Correct me if im wrong but was the x48 designed smaller? (smaller fab) wouldnt this mean less power = less heat synario? as i heard the x38 was very hot compared to the P35

X38 wasnt something to bring down P35, because they dont have much differences

The launch of the Intel X38 chipset occurred just a few weeks ago and even by the most optimistic viewpoint, it was nowhere as successful as the P35 rollout last spring.

this is just a way to get profit

1600fsb chip no overclock - very little you must buy a high end cpu

intel is phasing out 1066 to 1333 chips as way to drive prices up while still punishing amd

Just the difference of official support and overclock support,
some "low end" X38 board may skip FSB 1600 support for lower development cost,
though just wonder if there is even some "low end" x38 board...
