Start up not working

Hello,
when i start my pc up on the monitor it says system error.and my tower shuts down but monitor stays on. can you help me please

Is that the entire message? Does it say anything about a missing file? Or to select a proper boot device? Anything like that?

Have you recently reformatted the computer? Is this a fresh installation or is Windows XP already installed, and suddenly came to this error?
