Hi Im looking to get a new monitor between 22" to 24" for my recently purchased xps 710 (8800gtx,Quad Core Extreme @3.0ghz,2gb ram,Vista Premium)

Ive been looking at these

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/show [...] =MO-054-SA

- Viewable Area: 24” Widescreen (1920x1200 Resolution)
- Interface: Analog / Digital
- Response Time: 5ms
- Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=338806

1680 x 1050 / 60 Hz
5 ms
24-bit (16.7 million colours)

But are these monitors scalable?

Like am I stuck at 1920x1200 and 1650x1050 resolutions?

With Cyrsis out this month and future games I dont want to be stuck at such high res and the same time I want something higher than 1280x1080 which I have now...

Forgive me for sounding stupid but can I lower the resolutions on those monitors to 800x600,1024x768,1280x768 and so on while keeping full screen size?

I plan on keeping this pc for a while and dont want to be stuck at 1920x1200,having to get a new €500 cpu and graphics every 9 months to power it

before anything is said or done. crysis will bring your system to it's knees with only 1 gtx at 1920x1200. yes you can set custom resolutions in the nvidia control panel. nah most games are as tough as crysis when i tcomes to requirements

Thought that...

So I can knock the res down to say 1024x768 with Crysis and all other games and everything will scale ok?

I ask because I hooked my pc up to my 1368x768 32" HDTV and the thing wouldnt scale properly,I was playing an old game which I never played before (Resident Evil 3) on it and it only supported 1024x768 meaning only 2/3 of the screen was taken up,leaving annoying black borders at each side...

Which is I want to buy a monitor, but it looks to me that monitors have now turned into tvs, with regard to resolution

First personally i would stay away from Samsung monitors. They usually fade away from nice original picture within a few month. Talking from my expirience. Now i have 22" HP and happier then ever. Now i'm concidering to buy 24" for onother new buid i'm working on now. Didnt make my mind between HP and new Gateway with 3ms (looks absolutly great dont know if its available in UK so). About Crysis. I played Demo on all high exept audio on Q6600 overclocked to 3.0 Ghz, 4 Gb RAM PC800 with factory overclocked 8800GTX (Foxxcon). Looked and felt really nice and smooth so pleaseeeeeeeeee no talk about knees

LCD monitor run best at their native(max) resolution. A game may support lower resolutions, and other video options. I downloaded the crysis demo, and it looked great on my samsung 305T(2560x1600). As I recall, it was at the default of 1024x768, and it filled the screen nicely. Other games filled the screen as well.

I have been very pleased with my samsungs. One thing to look for is a greater viewing angle. If it is limied, you have to keep your head centered to avoid color drop off. 160/160 is ok, but 178/178 is better. Spend extra on the monitor, because it is the one future-proof PC purchase you can make, and you will be looking at i for a long time.

In a 24" monitor, I can recommend the 244T.

What about this LG Monitor it has a tv tuner and can be used as a tv?

The thought of down scaling full hd scares me,even 1280x1024 could look very blocky on that?

What do you think?

Not much. If you have a 8800GTX, you can drive any monitor you want. The more pixels the better to my mind. You can always lower the resolution, but you can't increase it. A monitor is the LAST place I would try to save money.
