my main question is what is considered a safe voltage for core 2 duo chips? it looks like 1.5 is around the max people want to stay at. anyway i am going to keep this thread updated with my overclock results. rig:
e2160 m0 stepping
neo2 fr
2gb ocz 6400 platinum (max 939Mhz at 5-4-4-15)
Xigmatek hdt s1283
thermaltake armor case with huge side fan

currently at 300x9=2700 Mhz

so that people know i couldnt fit the xigmatek heatsink with the case side door closed, the huge 25cm fan would touch the heatsink, but i took a soldering iron to the plastic fan and now it fits

i also want to say that this xigmatek hdy s1283 is brilliant i am currently at 2.7Ghz and speedfan reports chip temp 39,core0 and core1 at 31 degrees c.
so another question i would like to ask is, is it likely that speedfan is reporting my temps incorrectly? it is fairly chilly in my room

i think i covered evrything now im goign back to overclock some more
cheers

using coretemp both cores are at 45 deg c max on full load at 3.3Ghz. any more and the system becomes unstable, i think i need a fan on the northbridge heatsink. but im happy with 3.3Ghz for now with memory at 917Mhz

Nice setup!

MY Vcore is at 1.4 in bios, but during load it drops to about 1.34V, idle it is around 1.38. If you go much higher it definately starts to get toasty in there. I'm at 30-35C idle, 50-55C load with a TRUE 120 on my E8400. But Orthos has been stable for 10 hours now and I'm lovin the results for this first attempt of mine.

Seeing as your max load is 45C, you could up the Vcore a bit as long as it isn't already up to 1.5V. I always limit myself to about 60C load, even though CPU's can run hotter than that quite safely.

i think at the moment the fsb is holding me back,im at 1.475 v and above 3.3Ghz it becomes unstable,im going to try 1.5v and maybe get a fan on the northbridge
