So many come to us locally and on here wanting to know what's best and what they can get out of their video card choices . Number one there should be some link posted for them and all to show what resolution will be achieved from what card. I'd say 90 % have the standard resolution monitors of both types and will never run extreme high res on any games . Why buy a card that is overpriced for what you may never use on your system? I am hoping someone like APE will put together a possibly downloadable chart for the majority to view and help decide.
Let's face it probably 80-90 % of the systems are maxed at 1680x1050 res ... as this is the highest their monitor can deliver. We have had hundreds come in or call for advice and that's what they bought and that's all they're gonna get ! There seems to be alot of followups telling folks to get this one or that one and they overbuy and never use the potential on their system. Face it at least 80% of all the systems out there are store bought .... non scratch built .... arrays . And don't get a big head and say " my card can do bucu res ..... and I paid mega bucks when it is'nt useable for you and no you won't be able to sell it later without a huge loss no matter what some tell you ! Come down to earth and realize no matter what you buy now will probably be outdated in 12-18 months anyway as most of us ole boys have found out the hard way for many years. I have seen a few on here very honest and tell it like it is to be throunced on by others telling these poor newbs to buy huge and lose mega bucks . :sol: We won't give squat for a used video card and don't trade em in .... so be careful and only get what you'll use !
What games do you play most of the time and what can your system display and do you really want those extrememly high res settings ????

then u can just send it back for a replacement. My first gfx card i bought off ebay was faulty, so i just wrote to them, they asked me to post it back and sent me a new one with a refund for the postage cost :)

yeah i got a faulty graphics card once. i just told the seller and they assumed all responbsibility and gave my money back.

before you buy make sure to read the seller's feedback. make sure its above 95% positive and always read the negative feedbacks.

What gpu would you recommend for 3d modelling such as maya / blender, photoshop and games such as Counter strike, serious sam 2...halo 2 and any more decent games?

I was thinking 8800GT

@TomDrum: I'm thinking you are right. My 8600GT just doesn't cut it for serious gaming, but I only game a little.
