Remote desktop with vpn and using dial up on host machine

When I connect to my office PC from home using the office Cisco VPN it works fine however when I then try and use the dial up modem on the host machine (I work in the building controls industry so I am connecting to sites) it ends the remote desktop session. Any idea why? When I'm actually on the network and not using the VPN it works ok!? my laptop is Vista and the

Sorry* the host machine is XP Pro
