ram upgrade question

i currently have 2 x 256mb ddr ram and have 2 slots, can i take one out and add a 512? will it benefit? i already have the 512mb ram not installed yet

if the RAM is running in dual channel mode then no..... memory modules must be the same (matched pair)...... Otherwise yeh (may or may not work). Memory speed will be set at the speed of the slowest memory module.

how do i know if i am in dual channel mode?

should report whether dual/single channel when booting.... eg. Single Channel 64-bit/Dual Channel 128-bit

tbh - might of saved time with all this posting just by trying the memory......
