So I was going to buy my rig yesterday and decided on all of the parts but noticed that the PSU's price went back up 35 bucks (the rebate was gone), so I felt stupid about not checking the deadline on it. So, I'm going to the next best deal and this is what I found:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817153023

Will this be able to power the following system:
Allendale e2180 (OC'd to 3.3 Minimum)
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
DDR2-800 Crucial Ballistix 4-4-4-12 Memory
250 GB WD SATAII 16 MB Harddrive
BFG 7900 GS
2-3 Case Fans

This was originally supposed to be a budget build, so I'm looking for good price/performance parts. I ran the PSU calculator thing, and it came up with 355 watts, but it also said that it depends on the 12+ amps and didn't give me a number for that. So I'm wondering, would this PSU be able to power up my rig? I don't want it to be at peak power all the time though...I want it to be pretty relaxed. If I absolutely have to I'll get the 500 watt version for 50 bucks, but zipzoomfly has this 430 watt version for 20 bucks after rebate! Extremely good deal.

What do you guys/gals think?

A 350W 22A on +12V should do it. Give it some room & get a 400W something psu. I'm not sure if the 18A on the TT psu is enough, the wattage sure is.

This board is the same P35 chipset. It's good at stock or overclocked.

I'd look for something with more amps available on the +12v rail. If you ever plan on upgrading that 7900, you will need more. The 8800's need around 26 available IIRC.

Take a look at this one:

I believe the total available is 30Amps between the two 17A rails.

So the antec one is better than the TT one? Are you 100% sure?

And is that board better than the gigabyte one?

Stick with your initial choices... That thermaltake PSU will suit your system, if you ever upgrade to something bigger for a GPU youll need to upgrade the PSU as well.

The Gigabyte, Asus and Abit on the P35 are all good boards and have had nice reviews as well as praise from many people. Main thing to look at is features if you need Raid, firewire ..etc... that Gigabyte board is entry level but it awesome for the price and OC's well.

Are you sure it will work fine chookman even though I'm going to be doing some serious overclocking? Will do a big upgrade next year with a new psu so I don't need that good of a psu now, just to power this machine up overclocked.

The Antec is better. The Earthwatts is supposed to be made by Seasonic which makes high quality psu's. I looked at antec site, but it doesn't list the combined amperage. I'm guessing it's 30A or less.

The IP35-E is not much better, but at that price, it can't be beat.

It's not better, but it's not worse? Correct?

So the antec is worth the extra $15?

I wish it had modular cables!

Everyone is seems to love modular cables... me im not into them, if you have a higher end system you generally use most of the cables on a PSU and they one add to resistance that lowers the power output.

The 7900GS isnt an extremely hungray card... My HTPC at home runs 7900GS, E6300, hdd, odd, 2 fans and tv tuner on a 430W antec and havent had any issues. Admittedly its an Antec like the other one thats suggested but it aint a Earth Watts its a now discontinued model... I cant see there being an issue.

I'm looking into overclocking both the gpu and cpu, so as long as it's going to work fine then antec it is!

Much better at $61 shipped ($51 after rebate):

Well worth the extra cash.

I'm currently using one with:
overclocked Opteron
4 RAM sticks
7600gt
3 x 7200rpm HD's
2 DVD drives
8 case / hard drive fans

It doesn't even get warm (and I never turn my PC off).

So $20 more...worth it? Does it provide more amps on the 12+ rail?

Yep, IP35-E is about the same as DS3L except IP35-E overclocks a bit better.

The 430W TT will be more than adequate for your system. The 7900 GS needs <4A on the 12V rail.

I would either get the ThemalTake for the $20 deal and spend the quite a bit more and get the Corsair that somebody listed for about $60.

The Thermaltake will do you just fine right now.
However, the Corsair will handle you should you decide to put in a heavy duty GPU later.

So you can save now or save later by not needing to upgrade the PSU.
Really depends on your budget.

Personally, I would take the TT now, since it sounds like your budget is tight and if it turns out you do upgrade your GPU, it's not like the $20 is too much down the drain.

It appears to me that the TT and Antec are the same price - $30 AR. I would take the Antec Earthwatts even if it did cost $10 more. More amps on 12v, 3 year warranty, 80%+ efficiency. Seems to me to be a better deal all around - and a bargain price for a very good PSU.
