Didn't want to clog up the super nice guide with questions, so I started a new thread.

-----------------

It says to run ATI tool for 2 mintues and record the temperature, and then make a note of that temp. When OC'ing, it says you shouldn't go over that temp.

I have an 8800GTS 512 that I am getting ready to OC... I followed the procedure and the max temp. was 56 C. That seems rather cool to be my 'max'... is that right? I tried to find some specs for the card... but I did't find any hard data.

I know I can just push values and look for artifacts... but I'm trying to follow the guide. :)

Yes, that's a bit cool for a max temp. What is your fan speed on for your 8800GTS?

Mine was around 76C operating temperature.

If you REALLY want to know, download NiBitor 3.7 and pull the BIOS off the card, then go to the Temp sections and see what the "min/max" and operating temperatures are as well as the throttle threshhold.

I changed the fan to 'manual' (otherwise it started to scale up as it got warmer) and left it at the factory setting of 33%.

And cnymartyr... that sounds scary. :)

Yeah, that's a little off. Your temps should be closer to 90C.

Did you add 600h to the G92 line in the RivaTuner config?

Yeah, cnu had told me to do that in another thread. It was the only way I could Riva to let me access anything.

I DO have crazy fan-age right now (5 Antec TRICOOL on high)... although I doubt that would account for 30+C change... :)

Well, I wouldn't worry too much. Just set your fan speed to at least 75%, then OC away.

Talking about fan crazy, I have 9 x 120mm fans in my case. ;)

For those who may care:

3dMark06 Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, XFX 8800 GTS 512
OC'ed to 784/1863/1086

Out of the Box / OC

Score: 11755 / 12157
SM2.0: 4876 / 4929
SM3.0: 5201 / 5596
CPU: 3416 / 3400

RtoP: 39.67 / 40.06
Fire: 41.589 / 42.09

CPU1: 1.12 / 1.11
CPU2: 1.66 / 1.67

Canyon: 52.31 / 59.66
Freeze: 51.72 / 52.25

Not a whole lot of improvement across the board, but as nice bump on the SM3.0
