I want to get this (yes I know its old, but all I have is two PCI slots and a PCI Express X1) card but my power supply is only 230 watts and the card says it needs 250. One of the reviewers said that his works fine with his 240Watt supply.

So, is it worth giving it a try on my power supply or should I not risk it?

It may depend on the quality of your PSU and how many amps it delivers on the 12v rails. Similar cards need 18a, so I suspect you are short. You may not damage the card, but if it does not work, then you will have cost you something to return it.

I would look for another solution.

I highly doubt it needs a 250W PSU, the specified maximum power for a PCI device is 25W over the PCI Bus. Since the card doesn't have an external power connector, it won't take more then that. Depends on what is in your system then, as to if you have 25W left over, also depends on the quality of the 250W PSU.
