So pretty much i have $220 in my wallet that im looking to spend on a video card.
after looking at the 8800gt benchmarks, i'm not looking to settle for anything less.
My question is, when the new ATi cards come out, will the 8800gt's 512mb price drop down to $200? thats what i've been hearing but i'm not sure if its still a rumor or if its true.

can anyone give me the details? thanks.
They said the 8800GT will be in the $200~$250 range, 256MB being the low end, 512MB being the high end, as far as prices go, right now they are gouged pretty bad, and even with the release of the 3800 series, the prices I believe will not change much for the next few months. At most I believe they will come to the 'supposed to be' MSRP of 200~250. I personally payed $240 for a MSI NX8800GT 512, its been a week and it still hasn't even been restocked to be shipped to me though. E-mailed buy.com's support and I had just a good a clue as they did on when their next trailer backs in...kinda of sad.
meh.. i want to buy the 8800gt really bad before thanksgiving comes around the corner, i'm hoping that it will drop by then, but if not, what do you guys recommend for less than $200? i'll only spend more than $200 if its for the 8800gt or if the new ATi cards come out and they are really good for the price.
Don't buy anything other than the 8800 GT. The 8600 GTS cards and the older DX9 X1950 Pros etc. just aren't worth it compared to the awesome performance the 8800 GT brings to the table.
There are hardly enough cards to go around now, so the prices are higher than they should be at places like Newegg ($309 for the EVGA card!!). You could either wait a few weeks until there are enough cards to meet demand, and the price will drop a bit, or you could spend a bit of extra cash and get one now.
I'd personally wait a while longer, there's no sense in paying more for the card than you need to. In less than two weeks Ati's new cards will be out too, so you'll be able to see how well they perform and what the prices will be like.
Yea its pretty sad how scarse these card's have got!..I went ahead and just spent alittle more than i could have and got an MSI nx8800gt from newegg for 300$ and it arrived the next day! Im glad i bought it when i did becuase i was going to wait..now i realize how limited they are.
yeah hopefully the prices go down in a couple of weeks. and spending a little extra is a bit hard since im still in high school and rarely get any money ]:

I agree that you should wait because in the end you'll have a video card thats almost as powerful as a 8800GTX. Why would you settle for anything less?

Yeah, I hopped on fast enough to get my order in on launch day for the evga superclocked card at us $240. Still heavily backordered though I"m hoping it'll get shipped out today or early next week when another shipment arrives.
Buy the EVGA 8800 GT card now and then "step-up" to their G92 GTS 128 Shader model after Christmas when the prices come down. Look for the new G92 GTS in early December.

I think waiting is your best bet at this point, considering I really have a bad feeling im not going to be even seeing my card at all these week either, totaling 2 weeks from the day I bought it 10-29 . So considering your not even going to get it anytime soon if you did buy it, might as well wait anyways.
Update though, its was the MSI NX8800GT OC version I got for $240, sounds great but a 2+ week wait sucks big time.

EVGA and PNY have bumped their MSRP's to start at 269 and run up to 299. Were they always like that? If not I smell foul play! If prices stay high, the etailers and whatnot will still be alienating the people who are looking for real mid-level performance at a decent price. Me!

Whats messed up is EVGA changed their price from $260 to $270....during my setup. I didnt care because the amount I paid for my 8800gts 320 was still more..but if I had to pay money because of that I would have been pissed.

I just bought the $290 EVGA 8800GT KO so I can step up when the new GTS comes out. Step up is great because it is stepping up from the original price you paid, so I won't feel that burn of paying extra at all.
If theres a $200 8800GT then we should all buy two. I dont care if theyre 256mb each. Two will be 512mb and 224 shaders! Then again SLI support still kinda sux for the most part....

I highly doubt they are going to just cut the prices right after it came out. I see the new 8800gts costing $350 because it will easily beat the 8800gtx.
Im glad I didnt buy, the cards atm are all basically crap. THe memory at 2ghz+ used for long periods DIES, a lot of the cards are dying. They got quite hot, all made by foxconn, all high priced.
Fudzilla reported that flextronics will be producing them now:
So, basically, cheape and better, ill be waiting for the 1GB models or a dual slot full body cooled one. Prefer 1GB models but w/e.. may not come out beforexmas, will just have to struggle with high settings on crysis I guess..

You don't add up memory on SLI (256MB + 256MB is still 256MB memory available) and you can't add up the shaders like that either.
