Hey guys, i'm gonna build up a new computer.

The CPU I choose is Q6600. I wonder whether this CPU needs a Maxmium Formula or not.

I mean, just talking about overclocking, will P5E do as well as Maxmium Formula?

PCI-E 2.0 isnt very important for now
also P5E supports PCI-E 2.0 (its a X38 board like Maximus Formula):

if u can afford the Maximus Formula, then go for it , its one of the best (if not the best) X38 motherboard with DDR2 support

I think the P35 is a better overclocker. The only real advantage of the X38 chipset is the two 16x PCI-E slots. IIRC the ASUS Blitz Formula hit over 545MHz FSB, while the Maximus Formula topped out at around 500MHz.

Since SLI is not an option on either and CrossFire doesn't really compete I guess top level graphics aren't of interest so if pure CPU top score is your goal get a P35.

I think a 4GHz Q6600 will be enough for me.
So,P5E?

agreed, i always say this too about X38 vs P35, but he didnt mention anything about P35 so i commented about the choices he had made

Good luck with the 4GHz Q6600.
From what I've read it's not easy to get it that high.

If you don't mind the higher price get the Maximus (I think it's layout is a bit better). If you want to save some money get the P5E.

Maziar your advice was excellent I just added the P35 because he asked about overclocking potential.

hey, if you want all the extra gizmos for ddr2 on that board, ok. but if you wanna save some money (i know, 30 bucks aint diddly) check out the p5e. it is almost same, has a couple ports less, but still oc's like a beast! i think im going with the p5e and the q9550 when it comes out...soon!> and i have to find some good cheap ddr2 1066 for it. wonder if vista ultimate 64 will be an improvement, or just stick with xp?
