i am looking to upgrade my system a bit, and i want to upgrade my CPU, memory, and RAM (i recently bought a 8800gts... 2 months before the 8800gt, o well). i am fairly sure i want to go with the e6750 and some decent ddr2-800 ram, but i dont know if i should go with a P35 mobo or a 650i mobo. i do plan to overclock, and i have heard that the P35 is better for overclocking than the 650i, but i dont know if it is a big difference. some people would complain if they couldn't get their 650i to go to 3.8ghz, but as long as i can get to 3.0 - 3.2 i am happy. for the reviews i have read, the 650i has been slightly (like less than 5%) faster than the P35, so i wanted a second opinion.

lastly, if i do go with the P35, what are the benefits of the gigabyte DS3R of the DS3L? i am trying to keep this as cheep as possible, and if the DS3R adds like one extra SATA connector, then i just would rather save $25.

evga's 680i is a great board very easy to overclock, and has two 16x slots... if i can remeber correctly.... just in case you feel like sli.

i have always thought that sli was a waste unless you just have stupid amounts of money laying around, and it sounds like P35 is a better performer anyway, so i am probably going to go with the Gigabyte DS3L. thanks

Gigabyte P35-DS3L is always a good choice, and not just because I have one that has run flawlessly at stock and overclock speeds since April. :) I chose it because it because it has all the features I need and none that I don't need. Same way I buy my cars.

The only real use for a 650i is a dual card non-SLi rig where performance is not the main concern.

wow.. i've been checking toms hardware for ages now, and this post made me register.. lol
anywho..
this is my spec- E6750, 2GB G.skill (4-4-3-5) (and another 2GB on RMA at the moment.. :\ ) 2900XT (selling, and getting 8800GT) and the DFI P35 "blood iron", which Im selling to get the Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus (650i) read more about it, i think its a great mobo, with that great SLI option for later on..
get the asus i mentioned above, with eVGA 8800GT (and then you can either go SLI later on, or use their great Step-Up Program)
best of luck ;)

well.. with recent info that came to me regarding the Q9650 (and there for all of the 45nm CPUs) the 650\680 boards wont support them..
so i decided to stay with my P35 DFI, (getting my E6750 traded for Q6600 for free :D , and will be waiting untill q9450 is lunched and price drops),
SLI will have to wait untill new nvida comes with new mobos..
