Ok i am actually looking to get away from a raid array and need a fast hard drive for gaming mostly. of course everyone and there brother says to get a raptor, but i am also hearing a few people grumbling about the larger hard drives with perpindicular technology being just as fast. now my question is of course is this true and if so which drives should i look at someone said something to me about a samsung drive but they dont know anything about it. any help would be appreciated.

The new Velociraptors from WD seem to be about the fastest around at the moment. They are fairly pricey at ~$300 for a 300GB drive, but they seem to carry on the tradition of the Raptors and have been improved in pretty much every way.
Here is THGs interactive charts. I don't see the Velociraptors on there for some reason. They did a review of them though which you can search for and read.

i understand the new velociraptor is supposed to be the fastest but i really dont want to spend 300 dollars which is the main reason i was asking about the other hard drives, i appreciate your help though
