Here are some specs for a mid range gaming computer i would like to order soon (im planning to do so right when the 8800 gt comes out oct 29th). I know i could wait for peryn to come out but with crysis and UT3 coming out im afraid ill be unable to wait (im also planning to update the cpu, gpu and maybe mobo in about 2 years it should prolly be taken into consideration with respect to the PSU).
The computer will be used generally and for gaming. It will be kept on 24/7 for the most part (for torrents and such) and it will be in my bedroom so i would like it to be fairly quiet considering ill be sleeping ~10 feet from it. Silence is not the upmost priority however and i do not want to spend very much just to shave off a few DBs.
I plan on doing some light overclocking, just what i can pull off with stock voltage and still able to run for few days at a time without cooling down. Im thinking with the e6750 i can get at least 3.0 or low 3s with that in mind.

here we go:
ntel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - [Seems good, i thought about the e6850 but it seemed i could overclock and save the $85 extra]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - [thought it had the features i needed, not too much more, an okay overclocking reputation]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - [seems to overclock well, very cheap after MIR]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220144&Tpk=PDC22G6400LLK

A nvidia geforce 8800 GT 512mb, to be released on oct 29, not in stores yet but i plan to get it - [best card for the money, no new flagship card coming out this year that i know of]

SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - [not sure about this model/brand in particular this one just seemed to have better reviews]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152052

SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - [good reviews, cheap, i dont want a lite-on brand as ive had bad experience with them in the past]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151153

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply - [not sure if this would be better to get rather than the HX series, but i dont think having it be modular is that important cause i can just stick the cables in the back of the raised mobo plate on the p180b]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

Antec Performance One P180B - [good quality, sleek looks, fairly quiet reputation]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129017

CHIMEI CMV 221D-NBC Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 330 cd/m2 800:1 - [cheap, good reviews]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824252008

for teh cooling:
COOLER MASTER GeminII RR-CCH-ANU2-GP CPU+ Board Cooler - [this one is kinda a funny situation, i didnt really want to spend taht much on an air cooler considering i was only going for a light overclock and then i saw this and its $0 after MIR, isnt that crazy (hopefully it doesnt crack my mobo lol)]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103026
2x - SILVERSTONE FN121 120mm Case Fan - [for the cpu cooler, not sure if i want this brand, i just want something fairly quiet and cheap]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999346
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - [a lot of ppl seem to like this brand]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007

The total for everything comes to $1275.88 including the $250 for the 8800 GT and before $119 in mail in rebates

any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

I'd say go with a 19inch widescreen for 1440x900. 8800GT will own that resolution and still look very nice with 2-4x aa on crysis.

The 8800GT will handle the high resolutions w/o a problem.

It just owns the 2900XT and 8800GTS according to the tweaktown reviews.

The HX Corsair series is not as good as the VX series, but the HX series has gotten very good reviews. Looks like a great PSU for that price.

Im thinking of getting the same memory as before but instead getting 4x1gb kit (for the future, i think ill keep these sticks even when i upgrade video card, mobo, CPU in two years. This poses another question, will future motherboards continue ddr2 support? Or will i have to upgrade to ddr3 as well, which will be mainstream by that time, making the 4gb now maybe not worth it for gaming purposes.)

I am planning on getting vista home premium 64 bit, hopefully they have fixed most of the driver issues, and i think that games like crysis will benefit from the extra ram and 64 bit OS, supposedly crysis is optimised for 64 bit

edit: another question, it sounds like i dont need a souncard with vista and onboard will be just as good right?

ya thats a good idea with the S-flex's i think ill get those, im thinking i should probably put those on the case itself and then put the two tricools they replace on the geminii cause they are louder.

Yeah be very careful and make sure everything is post marked before certain dates, then print out ur info...like the stuff they ask for and also fill out the form just so they cant say ohhh i couldn't read it. Then what i did is print the newegg product page, and the order confirmation and im gona copy the packing slip so everything is perfect and maybe even pay for delivery confirmation to ensure it gets there.

Mid range no that is like mid-high range the gt supposedly out performs the gts's so if thats true the reswt of your setup practicly is high end

well i think they are going to update the GTSs later and so it wont be that high end, its a mid range price point i think because it is less than $1400

That looks to be a great build to me. Stick with the larger LCD though, the 8800GT can handle it. I prefer the Corsair HX520 to the 550VX, but both are excellent choices.

It seems that Crysis runs better at 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1680x1050 resolutions. Anything higher than that looks like you'll be turning down those graphics settings. Glad I kept my 19" LCD!

the 22" is 1680x1050, thats why its pretty cheap for the size

think ill get the EVGA card on newegg, they dont have too many to chose from

i know its the pre overclocked version which is kinda noob but was an okay price (the PNY card doesnt seem to be sold if you click the link right now) and it is bundled with enemy territory quake wars which is better than the others

EVGA has a 8800GT with a core clock of 700MHz, shader clock 1750Mhz and memory at 2000Mhz called the SSC OC 8800GT. http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3906&Itemid=1
