Lowering privileges breaks my profile (XP Pro)

Hello,

I've tried moving my profile from Administrators to Users.

Programs generally do work, however:
- Profile's Startup applications are not started;
- My preferences (desktop, keyboard layout, ecc.) are forgotten as soon as I log off.

It doesn't matter whether my profile is a Restricted User or a Power User. I have to move back my profile to Administrators if I want everything to work again.

Platform: Windows XP Professional SP3

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

What happens if you create a new user profile (non-administrator) and leave your own profile as administrator. Does the new profile work properly?

Forgot to ask if you are connected to a domain? I see you have XP Pro and the domain can be a big factor in user profile problems.

Yes, I'm connected to a domain and the profile I'd like to modify belongs to it.

To check creating a new user profile, I'll have to wait until tuesday.

Then I suspect (but am by no means certain) that you will find your solution on the server in the Member Of tab of your User Account.

Try removing membership from all groups except domain users ( but I urge caution here as I do not know your network configuration needs.)

I have seen this happen because of Membership issues in the past. Removal of the troublesome membership resolved it for me.
