I just connected an aftermarket fan to my video card, but this won't fit the connection on the video card. I can use either a direction connection to the power supply or the motherboard.

Does any of this matter? Is it beneficial to have it directly connected to the card? Should I get an adapter to do this?

I have a vf900-cu on an ati 1950xt, and it comes with a fan mate to manually control the speed.. but I can't tell if this is working or not. I could manually adjust the stock with atitool, but I can't monitor the speed of the fan with this now since it isn't connected to the card itself.
