Hatman--- He might want a 24" because most if not all 22" widescreens uses a TN display screen, which some people don't like?
I personally (over this last week) got a 22" CHIMIE (TN) and I absolutely love it! Was only $225 after shipping and rebate. Games are soo freaking immersive now (screen is more then large enough for PC gaming). My first LCD, and widescreen, I'll never go back to CTR's now =D
But Sixbone-- if you are intent on getting a 24", I am sure you can find a good one for much less then $600. Also remember that it will take a powerful video card to play newer games in it's native res of 1920x1200 (though native res isn't as big a deal as some claim IMO).
I'm a fan of the Samsung 226BW. Just be aware of the panel lottery issues -- there's "S", "A", and "C" panels with supposedly differing quality. I have the inferior C panel, but I downloaded a color profile for it, and it still looks great.
There are no 24" LCD monitor with a glossy screen that does not use an inferior TN panel. At least to the best of my knowledge. If you want a 24" LCD monitor the uses a MVA/PVA panel, then you will need to settle for a matte finish.

When I was looking for a 24" LCD monitor, I was looking at the BenQ FP241W. It has plenty of video inputs so that you can plug in more than just a PC video card. An Xbox 360 or PS3 for example.
The ones with a firmware prior to January 2007 are not capable of doing 1:1 bit mapping.
Planar is makes good monitors (known in the medical field), my old 19" LCD was the Planar PX191. The Planar PX2411w is a pretty good monitor if you are not looking for all the bells and whistles. They have one of the best warranty service in the LCD monitor market.
