Weird sound distortion then crash

Hello, after reinstalling windows xp again i have been having this wierd problem. I will be playing anygay and a litlte into it my sound will start to distort kinda then it will go to a continuouse high picth beep. then my pc will crash.

If anyone knows what could be wrong plz post.

Specs
amd athlon 64 4000+ 2.4ghz
7600gs 512mb
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
589 watt psu
windows xp 1 gig ram 200 gig hd

Do you by any change have an nforce mobo? If so, uninstall nvidia sw ide. MS has the same thing, but stable.

My system started crashing in games with the sound card doing that.
In the end I took everything apart and cleaned up the cpu and used some new thermalpaste. Everything was fine after that and the cpu ran cooler than ever before.

 

(Could have been high temperature, maybe a loose connection somewhere but I don't know. Cleaning it all up and reseating it all seemed to somehow do the trick).

 

I assume you are running at ok temperatures..?
