Ok i just bought a new system that has a e6750 with an ASUS P5K mobo. When i bought i planned to oc so i got a 550watt thermaltake psu and a thermaltake soprano case with ASUS silent knight 2 cpu cooler. Now that you know that could anyone tell me how far i can oc with those specs. I am aiming to reach about 3ghz.

3 GHZ is a simple OC with your CPU. My E6420 @ 2.13 stock is OC'ed to 3.00 on the STOCK Intel fan cooler with ZERO reliability issues. I'm  running it at a voltage of about 1.365 in the bios and using Prime95, the CPU never reached above 64C after about 5 hours of stress testing.

With a decent cooler, you should probably be able to reach 3.6GHz at reasonable temperatues and vcore voltage. Of course, you will have to decide what is "reasonable". Remember, all processors are different. Some will OC higher than others.

I have the same setup, running a e6750 with an asus P5K.
only difference is im running a Antec 500 Neo HE, and a Coolermaster hyper 6+ hsf. it runs very very cold, showing 22C idle 28C Load. its also damn cold in the basement ^^.

It also depends on what HSF you use. I have an e6750 running at 3.2, on an Asus P5N-E, using the Zalman CNP9500. It's not stable beyond that setting and it's either the hsf or the m/b chipset. By contrast, I've got a Q6600 running at 3.6 on a Blitz Formula, using a Thermalright Ultima-90 with a Rexflo 92mm fan. Both are rock solid at these settings, running in the low 40's at full CPU load.
