I am starting the OC process, and I've been benchmarking heavily along the way. I thought I'd share some interesting findings in the first stage of my OC.
I ran 3DMARK06 4 seperate times. Once with everything at stock speeds, once with the 8800GTS Overclocked and the CPU at stock, once with the CPU overclocked and the GPU at stock, and finally with both overclocked.
The OC on the GPU was from 650/1625/972 to 784/1863/1103.
The OC on the CPU was from the stock 2.4Ghz to a relatively safe 3.0ghz... a 25% increase.
For the rest of the system see the signature.

I was surprised by the way that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". For example: In the Deep Freeze test there was a 0.53fps increase during the GPU OC (or 1.02% increase), and a 4.34fps increase during the CPU OC (or 8.39% increase). Overall the total increase from stock was 10.22fps or 19.76%.
While most tests showed a modest impovement druing the GPU OC (average of less than 1%) the Canyon test had a whopping 14.05% improvement. For the same test, the CPU OC showed no noticable improvement at all.

PS - I think my favorite part of getting a new computer is all the benchmarking and making the charts and graphs to go along with it. I know... its sick and wrong, but its true.
I find it interesting how your SM2 score went up 730 points on the CPU OC alone...You've inspired me to make an exact spreadsheet with my system. I'll post mine when I get the time....damned valentines....5 page reports x2 and the normal homework bahh so lame....except my VBII course, thats fun.

I dont understand how you guys get such high benchmarks I have a 8800gts 640mb 500mhz OC to 650mhz and a minor OC amd phenom 9500 from 2.2 to 2.4. I get like a 8735 benchmark on 3dmark06? what am I doing wrong?
I did want to post my benchmarks for my "final" set-up. Sadly, I can't get my Q6600 to run reliably at 3.6, so I had to settle for 3.5Ghz. I also tightened my timing up to 4-4-4-12.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, It seems though that the 8800 series GPU's especially the G92's seem to be bottlenecked with a proc running less than 3.0Ghz, at least that was my magic number, at stock settings with Q6600 at 2.4Ghz and 8800GT 512MB I would get 11500, but with the CPU at 3.0 I would get close to 13000 and 3.2 even more.
also the 8800GTS 640MB is from the G80 chipset which has less stream processors and can't handle the shaders as well despite having more physical memory.
