One of my mass storage devices, a western digital 750GB usb HDD, unfortunately took some damage. It is not broken, but all of the data is lost. All of my patients' data was on it, and it could be deleterious for our business. Is there any way to recover the data? I'm aware that it's not actually 750 GB of space in that some of it is used for other stuff, so would my data be there, or is it gone once you delete it?

Depends on the damage;
if it's a corruption/accidental deletion there are plenty of tools which will recover data (http://www.runtime.org/index.html for example),
if it's hardware/physical damage then you'll need the services of a professional data recovery firm (which will cost).

If it's clients medical data, was it encrypted?
