I have an Asus P5K motherboard running Windows vista home premium.
When I boot up the green lights on both cd/dvd players light up and remain on. The computer continues to start and runs OK but neither of the cd/dvd's are recognised or work. If I then shut down completly wait a minute or so and restart I get the usual one bleep the green lights go out and the items are then recognised and work OK.
I presume this is a Bios error but despite resetting with the default settings this problem remains.
Could anyone confirm what the ideal boot settings should be in the BIOS or what could be causing this annoying error.
I think this is not a boot up problem... its like a device recognition problem.
PSU, I suggest you try to use other. Or the CD/dvd drives has the problem. I havent encountered in my life a bios problem prior to that as my job as a computer technician.

try updating the firmware on each drive. I had the same problem when updating to Vista. Vista couldn't find the right drivers for the outdated firmware for one of my drives and caused a conflict.
Might not be the problem but it is a place to start
How many cd/dvd drives do you have? Two of each? What's the rest of your system spec?
there are only two cd rom/dvd drives
