I need to get an inout device so that I can take video and sound from different items, ie VCR, DVDs,... and record them on to my computer for editing. What are the recommended deices for this.

For DVDs you can rip the DVD to your PC (similiar to ripping CDs for music) and then use editing software on the PC. For VCR or other analog inputs you will need a video capture card installed in your PC or have a video capture device that plugs into a USB port. Google 'DVD ripping' and check newegg.com for 'video capture'. You will get a bunch of apps and devices.
