I need a graphics card for my Viewsonic widescreen 22" TFT VX2235wm as my current onboard graphics setup does not support it.
CPU: AMD Sempron
Motherboard: ASrock K7VM3 .... Has 2 PCI slots(spec 2.2) & 1 AGP slot (supports 1.5V, 4X AGP card.). The manual has a caution for the AGP slot: "Do NOT use a 3.3V AGP card on K7VM3’s AGP slot! It may cause permanent damage!"
Please suggest any suitable cards based on the above info.
Hi Vivek,
I am not certain about the v3.3, this is something you will need to check for on any AGP video card you purchase.
I would recommend you buy the fastest AGP card available for your system. To my knowledge NVIDA 7800 or 7900 were the fastest AGP cards made. But I don't know much.
These cards seem to be selling on ebay for about 100 bucks used, I would recommend getting a BFG 7800 AGP OC. I recommend getting the Over-Clocked version from BFG, they come with a lifetime warranty. (but check for the voltage first).
What do you want to do with the system, puchee? Gaming or just websurfing/documents/etc?
If it's not gaming, get the cheapest 8x AGP card you can find. All 8x AGP cards will work in a 4x board.
3.3v cards is either the AGP 2x or 1x spec, not positive which but you don't really have to worry about it if you get a 4x AGP card.
If it's gaming you want to do, Ati actually has the fastest cards right now. The X1950 XT is the fastest AGP card in existance, but it's a bit expensive at $235.
Good gaming alternatives are the X1950 GT for about $140 (which would still be quite powerful) or the 2600 XT for about $115 (a bit less powerful than the X1950 GT).
Under $100, the best AGP gaming card is probably the 7600 GS, notably slower than the 2600 XT tho.

Then again, with his setup, cleeve, I doubt he's a gamer.
Puchee, really don't need to spend more than $50 for a card that will run that monitor since it seems you aren't a gamer. I'm also not a gamer, and I've been running a 24" LCD at 1920X1200 with no issues on an ATI X300.
While it's true a Socket A sempron isn't a dream gaming machine, paired up with an X1950 GT or 2600 XT you'd still be able to play most stuff out there with decent framerates - with the odd exception like Crysis and Supreme Commander.
If he's not gaming, even an X1300 might be overkill when a cheaper Radeon 9200 or Geforce 5200 might do that job. Although an X1300 is certainly a good card if he'd like to do a little DVD playback as well...

Hi cleeve yea just wanted to get the link out to the op. oh and you managed to post twice while i was composing mine so i missed your post.(phone call) how dare they when im on the pc Mactronix
Thanks for the replies ! I'm not into too much of gaming really but do play dvd often so I'll look out for good dvd playback. Besides, the card has to support widescreen res 1680x1050. Would the XFX Geforce FX 5200 256MB do the job .. any red flags ? Is it good for video playback?
How about Radeon 9550?
