On the site it lists that it uses a fan for more cooling. I seen a picture that they connected it via soft sort of wire my question would be How did they do that and with what?
The IFX-14 takes 140mm fans....but I would never get the IFX. I saw a review where the TRUE with 2 fans beat the IFX with 2 fans. Plus you pay a premium for 1) the bigger sink 2) better performance needs more fans = more price and 3) takes up a lot more space

Atm, the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the best air cooler on the market. Its about $55-60 versus its bigger brother (IFX-14 = $70-80), but depending on the configuration, the Ultra 120 Extreme performs just as well or better.

So when buying the thermal right ultra 120 it doesnt come with a fan just the heatsink right? if that is so what fans do u guys recommend for this heatsink
The package comes with two sets of mounting clips for 120mm fans. Also, it comes with thermalpaste... don't need to buy seperately (not listed in componenets... as well as two thermal pads needed with the IFX-10).
I recommend installing the fan on the tower before install it into the case as it is hard to connect the fan with the clips otherwise. To install the unit you do need to compeltely remove the motherboard from the case because the IFX-10 and mounting bracket go on the underside of the motherboard. However, if you install the IFX-10, mounting bracket and most of the mounting brackets with the motherboard out of the case it will make intalling the unit easier. The only piece you don't want to fully install is the top mounting plate (other than the tower)... that one you want to partly attach one of the srews to (whichever side will be closest to the sides of your case) and let it hang loose. The unit is so tall that you will have a hard time getting the screw in place if you wait till later. If you also install the whole unit with the motherboard outside the case you will likely have a hard time securing the motherboard again because the unit will get in the way.
Don't let this discourage you. It really is not as hard as it might sound. By having everything else ready to go and the top mounting plate partly attached all you have to do it apply a thin layer of the thermal paste to the CPU and the bottom of the unit (Use your finger as the tube does a horrid job of spreading it around... and use lots of hot soapy water to get it off your fingers when done). Then just slide the tower into place, flop the top mounting bracket over it and attach the other screw. Then just tighen them both down and you're good to go.
Note also that the unit will rotate when it is installed. There is nothing to stop the unit from doing that... so don't worry too much when it does. Though try to avoid moving it too much as it shifts the thermal paste.
I myself had to apply the paste twice because used the tube to spread it and it acted like a lubricant... sent the unit twisting all over the place trying to secure that first screw on the top mounting plate... and it actually removed the paste from the top of the CPU as a result. Hense why you want to use just enough to coat the plates. Plus, there is enough thermal paste in the tube that you can re-mount it a number of times if need to. Have to repace the paste each time I beleive... though the experts will correct me if I am wrong.
Also fairly new to doing this myself.
Lastly, the unit says that you can mount an 80mm fan to the IFX-10 though there are no mounting clips for it in the kit (e-mailed Thermalright about it already). However, they do sell the IFX-10 speratley and it does have special clips to mount the fan. I have asked what it would cost to get the clips... and suggested adding them to the box. Thus, if you want to add the 80mm fan (not at all sure even need to) then can always e-mail them and aks for a set of clips too. Again, no idea what they will cost.
Best of luck... if you take your time it's actually not that hard to install.
Actually... don't follow my instructions with regards to the thermal paste... guess I did it wrong. Good thing I have to go and change a couple of things anyways.
