SC4 city vanished

I was playing a new city ,was doing well also ,when I saved just to be
safe....then it locked up and I ctr,alt,del it claimed it was still running
so I tried to go back .All I got was a black screen. I clicked and the city
came back up,kinda.Most of it was black so I exited without saving.Went to
the reagon map and the whole area was gone.Like it had been cut out and ,as
I'm suspecting,thrown away.I exited the game re-opened the game and the city
is still gone.What are my options here?

Have you tried "opening" the tile upon which you had built the
city? The city may have been saved, but the graphics on the region map
not updated - a bit like the Ctrl-Alt-S quick save.

Go into My Documents, and browse to the SimCity 4/Regions folder.

Make a new folder here called Backup.

Now go into your Regions/<your region name>, find the City - <your city
name>.sc4 file, and move it over to the new Backup folder.

Open up SimCity, select the now blank city tile, and choose Import. Browse
to the Backup folder and select your previous City. You will still have to
open the imported city and save back to the region screen for the thumbnail
image to be updated correctly.

If your city doesn't show up under the Backup folder, or the game crashes
when you try to import it, then the file has become corrupted and you won't
be able to recover it.
