Ok, so, I play a lot of FPS computer games, and my 22" CRT is starting to get a little too old. I really want to upgrade to a flat screen monitor. I would prefer a monitor with a less than 4ms response time, and a 20-24" display. Anyone have any suggestions?

Samsung is usually the best brand. How much money do you have for a monitor?

What sort of video card do you have? 24" means 1920x1200 and it's too much for all cards except 8800GTX/Ultra, unless you dial down the eye candy. 20" or 22" means 1680x1050 and can be handled OK by HD2900/GeForce8800 cards.

Edit: before I get flamed - these are subjective opinions. It depends on the game and the user.

Take a look at this:

I used it when making my decision and decided to go with the Benq FP241VW, it has a 6 ms response time, but that is pretty low for most lcd's of this size and above...... plus she is sooooo beautiful :pt1cable: .... my girlfriend is jealous :D

Ok, I read your question earlier and I have done just about nothing but research since. I am also looking for a 24" monitor (at least that size and will consider going up to 28" if it meets all my requirements) and the following list are the ones of right now that I am considering.

HP W2408: $470

DELL E248WFP: $399

SCEPTRE X24WG: $369

LG L246WP-BN: $609

Gateway FPD2485W: $499

SAMSUNG 245BW: $469

They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I am really looking at the HP because of its ability to change the amount of light on the screen to compensate for ambient light.

EDIT: Since I have been looking I found that it does help to have a low gtg time (like Samsungs 2ms) but I also found that some others that had 6ms performed better then lcd that had 2ms. The 2ms displays were susceptible to ghosting then some of the 6ms ones. I don't understand why this is but it was something that I ran across. But for the amount of ghosting that was accruing, you would have to be looking very, very carefully because it was only happening for a max of 20 pixels behind the actual image or so. So honestly, find one that has the contrast ratio that you are happy with and one that is the best size for you and a decent price and buy it.

The reason I am moving up is for a few reasons.

  • My 20" is to small for my desk.
  • The Samsung 206BW says it can do 3000:1 but that is only in dynamic mode and I think that mode is horrible.
  • My current Samsung tears like a sob and would like to find a monitor that does not.
  • When playing racing games I do not feel like I am in the car but looking through a window and trying to drive it. Also, I do not get into my games as much because I can see the wall around it.
  • This is the most important one, I am just too picky to be happy with what I have.

Check out the Samsung 275T too, it's a great monitor. 27", 178 degrees angle.
