Just yesterday my internet connection started acting very strange. Randomly web pages will cease to load and any downloads from a web page will stop, but torrents and Skype continue to work. Unplugging my network cable from the router and plugging it back in gets me reconnected and allows pages to load, but I have to do this every 5-10 minutes and its incredibly annoying.

I've tried going straight to the modem, tried wireless, and I've tried several different cables and none of those things have fixed it. I've also tried each of the two network ports on my motherboard, same thing with both. Also this doesn't seem to be affecting my 360, although it does start to lag really bad sometimes. I won't be able to try out another computer until later tonight so I'm not sure if its a problem with my computer or with my connection. Anyone know what could be going on here?

Possibly a problem with MTU -- most routers are set to 1500, try 1400.

There's a utility called TCPoptimizer (free usual sites) which may help guide you.

I tried various MTU sizes and I tried changing some settings with TCPoptimizer and I can't get this figured out.

I have no idea why it started doing this, it seems like it just happened overnight. Lately Skype has stopped working when the connection drops but torrents still continue to work as if nothing is wrong.

Hi there.

Your best off trying to get a new router, just borrow one from a friend to see if that sorts out your problems, if so then its the router.

Otherwise it could be your network card in pc, does your pc suffer from high temps as that sometimes takes effect on the network card. Ive known heat to cause chattering network cards etc.
