Hey-

Does anyone know the details of crossfire x?

I know that you can use a mix of the cards to run in crossfire (i.e. 3870 + 3850 = a higher score)* but i was wondering if the faster card is restricted to the speed ( and bandwidth) of the lesser card?

would adding the 3850 to the system slow down the 3870?

Thanks in advance.

*- from the vr zone thread adding the 3850 to the 3870 got an extra 300 points on 3dmark06.

Generally speaking (and if you'd read the stickies, or done a search, you'd know), adding a second similar card with different clock speeds means that they will both run at the lower clock speed.

Wow-

I did not mean to make you angry with my question.

But- generally speaking isnt what I was looking for. Generally speaking refers to 'general' crossfire--which is not what the original question was inquiring about.

I was asking about crossfire x, which is different than original crossfire, and since this is the first platform that can use mixed cards in the setup, I was wondering if it would run them independently, or handicap the stronger card to the weaker cards specs.

next time you dont know the exact answer don't reply so cocky, and if you don't understand it fully please ask to explain.

sorry, i have not been keeping up with this new feature, i have vaguely heard of it.

there is however alot of discussion going around the web in other places from what i can see, nothing to solid though, alot of speculation.

ATi's site does not seem to be of any help either unfortunately

Yes you can run the cards asynchronously now.

The cards will each run at their own clockspeeds.

I'm a little dissapointed with the lack of information on this but there have been a few early tests in other forums.
