I went to newegg, and found this processor that I want to build a computer around.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail

It cost $209, and my budget would be $1000 total.

I have no clue what kind of motherboard can go with it, but I'd like the following specs:

  • Some good motherboard
  • 2GB RAM (with the ability to upgrade to higher)
  • Hard drive isn't important. Smallest size possible.
  • DVD Burner

I was thinking something like this for the video card:
    EVGA 256-A8-N506-AX GeForce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

The whole 7800 series is approved by Adobe, which is what I am trying to use. Adobe Premiere. And I play a lot of games online too, and I plan on playing Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 when I get my new computer.

Any help on parts would be so helpful. Thanks

For mobo, the suggestion above will work.

    For ram:

IMO, now is a bad time to go AMD cuz Phenom is coming out in weeks. Either mid or late Nov. It's quad cores. Just pair it with an AM2+ mobo (out next week).

What's the psu you picked out?

PSU? I don't know what that is.

How much will that Phenom cost?

I suggest you find out before you start building. Your PC will work much better if you include a PSU

I would think that you might want to change that video card. Seeing as AGP is kinda obsolite. If you can find that card in PCI-E than you would be ok, seeing as the mobo mentioned will be a PCI-Ex16 board. I bet you could find a 79xx card thats PCI-Ex16 for a good price.

Hope that helps with your decision.
