my q6600 system idles little under 40c(core temp t-junct.) with an open case and side step disabled. At full loads (prime 95-torture test) reaches upto 72c (t junct). The ambient room temps are under 22c.

These temps are measured by coretemp and I'm using stock cooling at stock speeds.

Are these temps normal?

My temps are nearly identical and I have had no problems for 7 months - however I still think its too hot.

AVG CORE TEMP 48c
Core 1: 49c
Core 2: 49c
Core 3: 50c
Core 4: 47c

At full load i have seen it hit as high at 79c per core

I have tried reducing the vcore and tried underclocking it - nothing reduces the temperature. I have called Asus about it and they believe it has to do with the fact my NB is so close to the CPU. They believe the heat is dissipating all around the CPU causing the numbers to be a little inflated. Regardless - I think it runs too hot.

I am going to try reseating the Zalman cooler - but first I need to buy some Arctic silver.

My Setup:
Intel Q6600 B3 + Zalman 9500 LED (Max 2500 RPM)
Asus P5W64 WS PRO
OCZ REAPER 1066 4x1GB
1000W Silverstone OP1000
Saphire Radeon X1950 XT 256MB
3x Seagate 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache (SATA) – ST3500630AS
1xPioneer DVD-RW DL DVR 212D (SATA)
Antec TX 640B Case (Similar) – Older Model
2 x 80mm Silverstone Chasis Fans (Front Side Panel) – Taking Air In
1x 80mm Silversone Chasis Fan (Side Panel) – Taking Air In
1 x 80mm Silverstone Chasis Fan (Back Panel) – Exhaust Fan
1x 120mm Thermaltake 5.25 HD iCage – Taking Air In.

OS: Vista x64 Ultimate

**** UPDATE *****
I decided to shell out a few extra dollars and picked up a new case (Silverstone KL02) and Video Card (an HD3870). So naturally I moved everything over into the new Chasis and consequenlty had a chance to re-seat my CPU Fan with some Arctic Silver 5. Idle temperatures have decreased by approximately 12 degrees. My full load temperature is what my old Idle temperatures used to be. I am not sure if its because of the re-seat, new case or new video card. Regardless I am happy with the new results.

AVG IDLE CORE TEMP 38c
Core 1: 38c
Core 2: 38c
Core 3: 40c
Core 4: 39c

AVG 100% LOAD CORE TEMP 55c
Core 1: 56c
Core 2: 54c
Core 3: 52c
Core 4: 54c

My Setup:
Intel Q6600 B3 + Zalman 9500 LED (Max 2500 RPM)
Asus P5W64 WS PRO
OCZ REAPER 1066 4x1GB
1000W Silverstone OP1000
Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB
3 x Seagate 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache (SATA) – ST3500630AS
1 x Pioneer DVD-RW DL DVR 212D (SATA)
Silverstone KL02 - Kublai Case
2 x 120mm Silverstone Chasis Fan (Side Panel) – Taking Air In
1 x 120mm Silverstone Chasis Fan (Back Panel) – Exhaust Fan

I have a O/ced Q6600 G0 to 3.0/1333 vcore at 1.3750

them temps are kinda higheven on stock speeds with the stock cooler. Try reseating your heatsink on the cpu again. and see what happends. and then let us know what happends.

My setup is

Thermaltake Armor series 8000 super big case.
Thermaltake toughpower 700watt
Asus P5k-V
Intel Q6600 G0 oc/ed 3.0/1333 1.375
Zalman 9500
Cosair XMS2 2x2gb ddr800 667 1:1 4-4-4-14 T2
74gb Raptor 10k 16mb sata 1.5
160gb 7.2k 16mb sata 3.0
2 lite-on Dvd-rw's LS Sata
Powercolor 1950Pro with X2 cooler
Vista x64 Ultimate

1 120mm Led Front
1 120mm Led Back
1 250mm Side
1 90mm Top back
1 90 mm Top middle
140mm on psu

My %100 load temps are as followed also ran prime 95 for 12 hours no errors.

43C cpu temp
35C mobo

core 0 55c
core 1 55c
core 2 50c
core 3 50c

ideal temps

Cpu 27c
mobo 28c

core 0 36c
core 1 34c
core 2 30c
core 3 31c

the G0 and b3 temps arent to really differnt from what i have seen.

Core1 45
Core2 45
Core3 39
Core4 40

and 69 Load on Prime95.

but when i take the case sides off it drops about 5-6 on load

CM690 all buttoned up. 1 Slip Stream Front Intake, 1 Slip Stream top Exhaust, 1 Rear Exhaust. Thermalright Ultra 120X and a 3.2 GHz G0.

54 C is the max I've ever seen on a core and normally it averages around 51-52 C (Via Core Temp with Prime95 Loading).

Q6x00: Tcase Max 71c, G0 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Max 1.372, TDP 95w, Delta 10c

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--70--/--80--80--80--80-- Hot
--65--/--75--75--75--75-- Warm
--60--/--70--70--70--70-- Safe
--25--/--35--35--35--35-- Cool

That's from the guide over in the overclocking section. You are within Intel Specs.

has anybody here performed the prime 95 torture test on a stock setup? And what are the temps under load?

I'm afraid I can't buy after-market hsfs in nepal.

i might try it and see what happends. but dont know thats alot of work lol. do you have speed step on and such the power saving features. is the stock fan at %100 or no. that might be your problem

john_d, you haven't yet stated which Stepping you have. There is a 10c difference in specifications between the B3 and G0 Steppings. Below is the Temperature Scale for the B3 Stepping from the Core 2 Quad and Duo Temperature Guide: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/221745-29-core-quad-temperature-guide

Scale 4: Quad

Q6600: Tcase Max 62c, B3 Stepping, Tjunction Max 100c, Vcore Max 1.372, TDP 105w, Delta 10c

-Tcase/Tjunction-
--60--/--70--70--70--70-- Hot
--55--/--65--65--65--65-- Warm
--50--/--60--60--60--60-- Safe
--25--/--35--35--35--35-- Cool

Google it and read some reviews. It's posted everywhere about their differences.
Don't change people's thread, you can post your own thread with your question.

For the OP :

Q6600 B3
Stock 2.4GHz (266x9), Stock Intel HSF.
Prime95, Small FFT, 10 minutes ran:
C0 : 61°
C1 : 60°
C2 : 59°
C3 : 60°

OCed 3.2GHz (400x8), Stock Intel HSF
Prime 95, Small FFT, 3 minutes ran:
C0 : 76°
C1 : 75°
C2 : 75°
C3 : 76°

For your G0 temp, it must be less than what i have. Btw, did you put thermal grease, what kind of thermal grease? Did you check the heatsink fan is spinning ?

That is very close to what my B3 Q6600 is running... 2.9GHz Zalman 9700, stock vcore setting.

It is really not an impressive cpu, dont care what anyone else thinks, this thing is a friggin space heater.

Yep thanks to remind me.
Surely the core temp can go higher than what i wrote. But that's what i saw after 3 minutes small FFT test and my rig start to beeping and i shut it down.

Maybe you need to reseat your heatsink.

Thanks, guys. I have reseated the heatsink with an Intel supplied thermal grease. But my load temps are still the same.

It's not so bad now that it is winter. But in the summer I guess I'll have to use a room fan to cool the CPU.

I'm very disappointed with the CPU considering that I had to pay over USD 400 for it. I'm afraid prices are a bit different here in Nepal. LOL

Just finished commenting on other post for john_d.

Again, I would have to strongly disagree with shadow's comments.
