power supply:500w super flower with +12v rating of 30a.

In asus pc probe at idling it give 11.07v on +12v rail & while gaming it goes down to 10.7ish the lowest it went was 10.31.

I experience crashes in crysis but strangely in directx 10 mode only & also bioshock-But I believe that has to do with virtual memory issues in 32 bit os & bioshock needs a patch.

I need to know is whether the power supply is contributing to my problems in anyway?

This is how crysis(directx10) & bioshock crash:

Going strong--loking good-5minutes later-screen lockup but game audio in loop-release-running again-rinse repeat 2 times-then...mega crash-ctrl + alt+del dont work-hit reset.

Check in your BIOS PC health. Does it show the same value ?

The software programs doesn't always give the correct values. The BIOS should give a more accurate reading as per slicessoul's suggestion.

Huh? Is that one of those PSUs from the sixties?

Try again - brand, model, link.

These voltages should be measured under load, with a volt meter, at the connector. Ignore the +5VSB, it is the stand by voltage.

+12VDC ± 5 %
-12VDC ± 10 %
+3.3VDC ± 5 %
+5VSB ± 5 %

I checked my voltage in bios:

vcore voltage: 1.24v
memory voltage:1.87v
1.2v HT voltage:1.24v
MB voltage:1.23v
Sb voltage:1.52v
CPU VTT voltage: 1.26v
DDr2 termination voltage:0.94v
3.3v voltage: 3.18v
5v voltage: 4.78v
12v voltage: 11.07v

is it bad?

Super flower 500W

30A 12V rail Recomended 30 to 32A, bottom of range but should work,
check the voltages in BIOS.

I see you did, 11V is low doesn' look good.

11.07v, yep it's bad sign. 5v and 3.3v voltage are quite bad too.

My guess, and this is just a guess, that is a low quality PSU.

Using the BIOS to check voltage - especially the 12 volt rails yields misleading results. Operation while running in BIOS is probably the most lightly period of operation. You cannot use the BIOS to check the voltages under heavy CPU/graphics load.

And even here, the BIOS reports 11.07 volts - low, even before you start loading the PSU. Check the voltages with a DMM while the PSU is under load.

Then replace the PSU.

Thanks for the heads up you guys :) I am goint to get a thermaltake toughpower 750w.which gives 60a total through 4 +12v rails.

Lets say I add another gtx later on,will it hold? or do I rather get the 850 watt thermal take which gives 62a through 4 +12vrails? it will cost me 30$ extra though(for just 2 amps) :p & I am a bit tight on cash these days.Is it worth it?

Thanks a lot once again you guys.

no, stick with the 750

Reply to Zorg

The 750w would be more than fine. You would be getting 24watts more on the 12v rail if your went with the 850watt.

Wow you guys are good-thanks for the valuable & cost saving info.

Yo jsc Hi! where in dhahran? I am in Khobar btw!very near :D-will be getting that thermal take from dossary tower!-1st floor-theres a Saudi guy with lots of cool psus & cases.

oops my location still showing my old address-fixed!

Reply to rikstaker

okay-more trouble of sorts

I got the 750w thermaltake

when I had it up & running: iget this voltages in bios & probe:

3.3v-3.20
5.50-4.76
12.0-11.46

But it stays the same even in load.I decided to run 3dmark & to my surprise my avg score jumped by over 400 points :s

Those ratings seem fine to me. Your games still crashing?

Reply to cfvh600

update:
i did two changes-
1)Used the sata power connector to power my drive instead of the 4pin connector.
2)Use the thick power cable that came with thermaltake.

Changes:
3.3v-3.23
5v-4.95
12v-11.58

Did I crysis run-normally it crashes when you get to aztec-recovers & crashes 3minutes later(always done that)

*drumrolls*

Yeh baby!!!!!!!-it kept going woot!-bye bye crashes.
