AMD does need this badly, but I believe this be available in late 2008. If AMD's ability to be competitive with Intel is greatly curtailed, then any Intel may not feel the need to be innovative. Just look at the innovation created by their recent rivalry.

i do not think amd has a chance with the intel momentum and the onboard memory controller chips reporting 20-30k memory bandwidth which double the current max of 10-11k, with ddr3 settings at 2.1+ v and fsb1600+ as reported at THG

DDR 3 prices will come down, but many people who opt for an AM 3 motherboard will want @ least 4 gb of memory assuming the have a 64 bit OS. In theoretical terms I figure i would have spend a minimum of $1500 for a system upgrade, and that would be for mobo, cpu, and ram. video card not included, that could be another $500
