Hello there lads, I have a question regarding my CPU and Memory.

SO.. I have an AMD 4800+ g1, that has the multiplier blocked at 12.5x (max) (default) so with that multiplier the memories (2x1gb corsair ddr800) work at 714mhz.. I want to reduce the multiplier to 12x so the clock will fall to 2400mhz (2500mhz original value) so that the memories will work at default value 800mhz.

NOW the question is.. Doing the UNDERclock, and keep the UNDERclock always it will damage my CPU overtime? Or will work perfectly?

I think no damage will be involved... LOL .. Not using it to full speed or you don't shoot NOS in his engine.. Will work OK, now this is my opinion, I expect one from a expert.

The damage that does to cpu's or any other computer parts is temperature. As long as your cpu is under 60c you should be fine :)

If you underclock without out bringing down the voltages, you'll probably end up hurting the cpu somewhat. This is a extreme case, so don't worry.

If you bring down the voltages and underclock, you will prolong the cpu life.

Ok, here's the real deal.

the cpu is running this way 12.5x 200mhz = 2500mhz, VCORE cpu 1.30-1.31V

so i intend to put it to 12 x 200mhz = 2400mhz. NOW should i let 1.3V the default for 2500mhz ? if not which is the best voltage to put it?

You should be able to drop the voltage some, if you underclock. Though, I really have no idea how much you can drop it. You really aren't underclocking that much, so I would assume that you could probably leave it at the normal voltage with no problems. If you were dropping the multipier lower like 8x200 = 1600, I would probably expect a drop in voltage would be good. It would reduce heat (which is really good) and the CPU wouldn't need as much, since it is running slower.

The lowest voltage setting will differ from cpu to cpu, so you'll need to test it out yourself.

What I'd do is grab a copy of Prime95 and underclock to whatever settings you want it to. Then I'll try 1.3V and stress test for 10mins using Prime95's small FFT test. If it passes, bring the voltages 2-3 notches down and repeat. When it finally fails within 10mins, bring the voltage setting up 2 notches and stress test for at least 6hours. If it keeps failing, bring it up one notch.

thanks, i lowered the multiplier to x12(2400mhz) and let the vCore untouched (1,312V) by default. the cpu seems to work fine, stays between 54ºC and 56ºC like before (with the original values).

the ram seems to work at 800mhz like this. thanks to all lads ;) keep on the good work ;)

I don't know the exact amount, but if you bumped the FSB up about 20-30 mhz, you would also get your ram up to 800 mhz. That is what I do with my x2 4000+. I run it at 2436~ (instead of 2100) mhz and the ram is at about 800 mhz~. That is with the FSB at 232 and a mult of 10.5.

But, either way works. With an FSB bump, you could see an increase in performance and very likely a stable OC.
