I thought i knew exactly what I wanted but i just need to make sure i get the right memory for a great rig.
I plan a Q6600 system with a mb that will support the 45nm processors so i can update later in the year. I do not plan to overclock very much if at all, maybe 2.8 and if that goes ok 3.0ghz. The most help i need is with the memory choice and mb. Im not sure whether i should just get a P5N32-E SLi, or a Striker Extreme. And is XMS2 DDR2 800 ok. Mostly im confused about the MB supporting upto 1066 FSB and getting 800 on the memory.

P5N32-E SLi for sure the striker is a price premium for next to nothing.

quick run down on the 1066 fsb and 800ddr2 thing. 1066 is quad pumped... so physical clock is 266mhz. DDR2 is "double pumped" actual is 400mhz. this is why a 1066fsb processor is nicely matched with 533 ram they both have clock speed of 266mhz.

In short 800 will be great. and for the SLI i hope your looking at 8800GT or the new revised 8800GTS640

Perfect, thanks so much for the straight answers. I have two 7900gt now and the 88's will be in the next 2 months or so supposing they are still on top of the price-performance charts.

With e675- running 1333FSB at stock... clock is 333... DDR2 is doubled... 333x2 = 667 so that e6750 will use 667mhz at stock 1:1 any overclockering 800 or even 1066 ram would be advised.

I've been working with 650i and 680i chipset alot lately trying decide the best ram. I would recommend DDR2 800Mhz, also memory with cas latency 4 and 4-4-4-12 timings seems to work best, especially if you want to eventually populate all 4 ram slots in the future.

The biggest problem I have seen with ram and this motherboard is getting ram that will work with 4 sticks. I origonally bought G.skill 1MB DDR2 800 with cas latency 5 and 5-5-5-15 timings. My motheerboard is literally arriving in the next 2 hours and im anxiously waiting... I think the ram will be fun but im gonna return them most likely for the geil down below for a couple of reasons. it has 4-4-4-12 timings, lower voltage, and although this exact model isnt listed in the manuel QVL list, other models of geil are on there.

I would recommend
these GeIL or some thing similar

of course crucial and cosair are good brands, i've heard of corsair having trouble with some of there sticks though.

just make sure you dont go too cheap, and do some research when buying your ram so you dont run into problems down the road.

Edit: Also I went with the P5N-E SLI, 680i chipset doesnt really perform better than the 650i chipset at the moment, but i think the P5N32-E has better cooling for the northbridge.
