My friend is upgrading his PC. Would it be better to put 2x 8800GT's in SLi or 1 x 8800GTX? As far as I know there won't be much difference in price.

Any advise will be greatly received.

Well, one GT pretty much matches the performance of an GTX. So your friend can just get one and save an additional $270.

Great, do you think it would benefit games like Crysis though with 2 cards?

While it would help, Crysis is still virtually unplayable at the higher qualities on even two 8800 Ultras. I'd suggest getting the 8800GT(if he can find it) and save the rest of his money for a future Geforce 9 series card if he's really interested in running Crysis.
