I don't know if there's something wrong with my video card or if it's normal, but my 8800GTX is running at 68C with fan turned up all the way to 100% and 80C-82C with fan at normal speed. I have an antec 900 case with 4 120mm fans and the 200mm fan on the top. All fans are turned up to high except the side fan (side fan is not 3 speed). Is there such thing as having too much air flow? It seems that my temps started to rise everytime I have updated my driver. When I first built this system a year ago my card would stay right around 55C-60C with fan at stock speed. Even a month ago I could turn the fan up to 100% and get it down to 62C. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
More about8800gtx heat issue
I just picked up an 8800gts 640, while monitoring temps the gts hit what i thought was way to hot 82c. after puttin an exhaust fan in the back of my case, the temps would max at 72c. (no fan speed increase). turns out the gts will hit 82c. and the gtx will go to 84c. and thats the norm.
I just don't think I should be getting temps like that in an antec 900 case with all those fans. Like I said the temp has gradually went up. I was getting 55-60C for the last 8 months with fan at normal speed. The Norm for these cards from what I have read is not in the 80's it should be in the low 70's with fan at normal. With fan set to 100% it should be in the low 60's especially in a case like the antec 900. I do have to take into account that I have the heat on in my house, but I did last winter and the temps were fine. I think I am going to just call EVGA and see what they say. Thanks for your help though.
maybe you are creating too much of a vacuum in your case, not letting the gtx exhaust properly.
I was wondering that too. You think I should try turning my fans down to medium?
My 8800GTX runs cooler than that overclocked.
Hmmm, what temps do you get and what cooling are you using?
My GTS 640 was like that, until I slapped on a water block. Now it never hits above 45c...
I really think those stock coolers hold in a lot of heat due to the full-size heatsink design. There is a lot of dense metal that just sits there, and we all know how well dense metal dissipates heat...very slooooooooowly.
Is there a dust ball inside the fan?
I don't think so, I blow it out about every other day. The antec 900 takes in a lot of dust.
My GTX is currently sat at 66c doing just windows stuff for a few hours thats in a antec P180 case with case fans all on "low". Vtune shows the dynamic fan speed as being at 100% no idea how to tell the actual fanspeed.
Gaming I can hit mid 80's if Im really pushing things. Thats with the fans showing 100% dynamic again. High 70s when gaming are the very normal for me.
I had crysis cranked up to 2048x1536 with 16xaa the other day with the high detail hack... it didnt like that much
No major dust in mine at the moment gave it a good clean on wednesday
I am going to try turning my fans down to medium and see what happens. The rest of my temps are great. CPU:35C System:27C.
