Let us all know how it runs...I have a Q6600 as well, interested to see the gains. I'm guessing you sprung over $1,100 for the extreme, as that is all I see listed at Newegg.

Post some benchmarks once you are up and running compared to your current rig!

Yup, its the high dollar one, I don't think the lower priced ones will be released until after Dec.. I wanted the multiplier unlocked chip because I'm thinking of going Prometia or Vapochill cooling and it would almost have to be unlocked to get the most out of it.

I will do some benchy's for you guys when it comes in and see how high an OC I can get out of it compared to the Q6600.

I've read reviews of 4.4 GHz on stock cooling.

I'd really like to see what the "midrange" ones will do.

I want to get one of them put under some water and push over 4 without trouble. I'd like to know what the FSB wall on them if once you get it if you can. 8.5 or something is the highest multiplier on the non-unlocked ones.

Thats easy, slap some Crysis butt.... :) , but for real work, improve my Studio Max9 rendering (mostly), speed up my Adobe Premiere CS3 video rendering, PS CS3 processing, don't really need that much for web development apps but its there if I need it.

I don't know those apps, but it'll be nice if/when they have SSE4 support (if they aren't adding it already).

Lol.. I saw a link a while ago to some thing about MS working on a really small footprint OS. Something like 5 MBs on disk but it was ASC-II and they were working on graphics.

How hilarious would that be?

Edit: Also I know Penryns have SSE4. I meant the programs properly utilizing it.

I'll probably going to disappoint you. Crysis does not use even 25% of Q6600. That's 25% load on each core during the most hardcore events (lots of models, explosions everywhere, etc). Playing with 1680x1050 resolution, high settings under Vista x64.

There's even a new review:

Pros: Z O M G this is, at stock speeds, at least 4x faster than my G0 SLACR Q6600 OC'd to 4.8 on phase! SSE4 boosts my Crysis frame rates by no less than 80%, and I'm setting new 3dMark records every day! Eat that k|ngp|n!! This is truly an amazing processor!!!
Cons: You can't afford one. Consequentially, i have three. Also, my SLI'd GeForce 8800 Ultras are now my system's bottleneck. AMD will never recover from this.
Other Thoughts: You can not possibly compare.

Sooooo... ZERO out of 1 people (notice plural) found this helpful?. o O (still entertaining....)
