You need a DDR2 or DDR3 memory with a motherboard which supports 45nm CPUs (Q9450 is a 45nm CPU), SOME P965 boards (like some of ASUS
P965 boards support it ) and ALL P35 boards and ALL X38 boards will support it

Honestly a P35/DDR2 would be fine.

If you want to go nuts... X48/DDR3.

I don't know what the wall will be on these things for the quads, hopefully somewhere from 450-500.

well, X48 isn't out yet, but yeah P35/DDR2 is a perfect combination

I'd fully expect X48 to be out by Mid-Jan when retail Q9450s are available.

The X38 should also be mature and great by then.

If the x38 is so great why did they replace it so quick?

To my knowledge the only difference with the x48 is only DDR3 support and 1600mhz support on memory. Yip dee do

Why did they replace the P35 with the X38 so quick?

X48 is also supposedly going to support more PCIe lanes.
