My Windows XP could find the CD drive icon in the My computer or in the file
explorer.
I checked with the Device Manager and found the CD drive is working
normally. I've tried to uninstall and re-scan for new device. The system
could find it w/o any difficulty. However, the icon still couldn't be
found. P'se advise how I could re-create the CD drive icon. Thanks

Right click my computer
Click Manage
Click Disk Management
If the CD drive is showing right click and click Change drive letters and
paths
Assign a drive letter.

This applies to XP also if you have TweakUI...
Missing Drives in My Computer and Windows Explorer

My CD drives have vanished (from Explorer, Device Manager, etc.)

Restore Missing CD Drive

If those fixes don't work then I would try the following which has
helped me in a number of 'system does not see devices correctly' type
situations.

1. Uninstall the device thru' Control Panel
2. Power down the PC and remove the power supply plug to the back of the
problem drive.
3. Restart the PC and let it do it's thing.
4. Power down again and reconnect the power supply to the drive.
5. Restart the PC and let the system run it's normal 'new device'
installation routine.

Hope you sort it.

I've the TweakUI and "tick" back the "Drive E" (because I have partitioned
my hard disk sometime earlier into two as C: and D:) My previous CD drive
was assigned with D:. I guess this is the reason. Now I can see it now.
Thanks for the help.
