Toshiba laptop keyboard no keys working vista

nothing has been spilled on the keyboard. reinstalling the driver does not fix the problem. restoring to an earlier working date does not fix it. mouse and touch pad are working. is this a common failure mode and if so what is the fix? must the keyboard be replaced?

Uninstall the keyboard from the device manager and reboot!
